La Bella Durmiente es una de las grandes partituras para ballet (junto con El Lago de los Cisnes y Cascanueces) compuestas por Tchaikovsky. Data de 1890 y corresponde por tanto a un romanticismo tardío. Pero lo que de edulcorado y decadente pueda tener ese romanticismo en el cuento de Perrault en el que se basa queda compensado con una música inspirada y luminosa y con una coreografía, la de Marius Petipa, que logró un modelo insuperado y una obra maestra del ballet clásico, con pasajes antológicos marcando las escenas claves de la acción y con, libre ya que todo pretexto narrativo, una verdadera exhibición académica en el divertissement final.
El Ballet de Moscú presenta una de las obras emblemáticas: La Bella Durmiente. Dirigido por Timur Fayziev, coreógrafo formado en el Marynsky donde fue primer bailarín, el Ballet de Moscú fue creado en 1989, y está compuesto por algunos de los más destacados bailarines y coreógrafos de los ballets rusos, como el Bolshoi o el Stanislavsky.
